Marrying Your Best Friend

posted in: Blogs, Joy | 2

I love being married to my best friend.

Chris is always makin’ me laugh. Being married is definitely as amazing as they said it would be. My favorite parts of our journey so far have been decorating the home for fall, making dinners together (he mostly does this but I get to enjoy the meal), and seeing him everyday.

In no way, did our relationship get to be this good on our own. There has been so much prayer and support from those around us. I am so thankful for the people that put so much work in with Chris and I to not only make the wedding beautiful, but the marriage beautiful as well. We are working hard to build Team Poirier strong with what we’ve learned through our mentors and the Marriage Matters lessons from our awesome church. Reading lots of books helped too. If you are looking for any book suggestions, I would love to recommend some!

Marriage takes a lot of work and I am so thankful for every vulnerable, selfless way my husband puts his heart into loving me, especially when I’m at my breaking points. It is blessing to be his wife and to have this marriage.

He has pursued me from the first day we met and continues to every day. It amazes me every time he does something to show he loves me. I feel delighted in and loved by the simplest of acts. It’s funny how the little things add up largely and pour into our marriage greatly. We have seen it modeled by healthy marriages, so being able to practice it in our marriage now has been a priority.

Think of a way today that you can really listen to someone, tell them what they mean to you, or do a task for them that they hate doing. Maybe all your significant other needs today is a genuine “Hey, how are you?” Discover joy through the act of loving others today.

As promised here is the link to the wedding video!
